The following exercises will help you stimulate your brain and help you live an active, prolific and positive life, says Dr Kapil Kakar
The brain plays a pivotal role in one’s life, since it is the point where all functional activities start and end. By stimulating the brain, creativity and awareness can be increased. There are exercises which help one stimulate the brain, helping to live an active, prolific and positive life.
‘V’ exercise: Make a ‘V’ by widening the thumb and index finger of your left hand and place it just below your collar bone. Place your right hand on the stomach over navel and start pressing the points softly for one minute. This exercise increases blood flow to the brain, thus stimulating the brain.
Cross matching exercise: Put your right hand on your left knee and your left hand over your right knee and start tapping your feet. This exercise may be done sitting on a chair or standing. Repeat this exercise 10 times for 30 seconds each. This aids better coordination between the right and the left brain.
Squatting: Hold your right ear lobe with your left hand and your left ear lobe with your right hand. Now, bend your knees, sit and then slowly stand up. Breathe in while going down and breathe out while standing up. Do five sets repeatedly.
Change patterns: Over a period of time, we tend to get habitual to certain patterns in life and programme our brain to unconsciously repeat those patterns over and over again. This results in a standardized flow of neural messages, resulting in not using the brain completely. So, if you keep your handkerchief in the left pocket, start keeping it in the right pocket. Similarly, if you wear the watch in your right hand, start wearing it in your left hand.
Even if you were to only visualize the same right now, you would have sense a feeling of discomfort. This discomfort is the result of a change in the sequence of neural communication in the brain. Stay with the changed pattern till the time you get habitual and comfortable and then change again to a new pattern.
